Cruise Halted After Death of Female Passenger Abandoned on Island

One 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the death of an senior lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew realised the woman was missing.

A major hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the ship were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Captain" banning any additional guests from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The liner first departed the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of currency to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking club.

"From the little facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she desired the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Her existence".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother took sick on the hill climb," she stated.

"She was asked her to return, unescorted. Then the boat departed, seemingly without conducting a roll call.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, mother succumbed, without company."

Organization Reaction

Via official communication, the Head affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to support their inquiry".

He stated that the firm was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.
