The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals that were central to campaigns to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
